Today, in the tile and ceramic industry, there are various methods and types of glazing. Here, we will briefly introduce them:
1 – Colorless tile and ceramic glaze
This type of glaze is used to coat the surfaces of fine porcelain items. It is colorless and transparent, and is made from a mixture of calcium, silica, and white porcelain clay.
2 – Colored tile and ceramic glaze
The most important type of glaze is colored glazes, which are obtained by using metal oxides. Copper oxide (Cu₂O) is used for blue color, iron oxide (FeO) for yellow, and chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) for green.
3 – Opaque tile and ceramic glaze
This type of glaze, used for coating ordinary porcelain items, is made from a mixture of SnO₂, PbO, SiO₂, Pb₃O₄, salt, and sodium carbonate. After melting, cooling, and grinding it into a powder, it is turned into a "milk bath" in water. The item to be glazed is then immersed in this solution.
4 – Textured tile and ceramic glaze
This type of glaze contains textures from decorative stones and silica, which create a rough surface on the glaze. These surfaces, due to their high friction, are suitable for use as floor ceramics.
